Committment to the Environment

BHI mandates the reduction of waste materials through the implementation of a company-wide materials reduction and recycling programs. The use of a professional recycling service and the migration toward a “paperless workplace” has greatly reduced the amount of paper usage. Some other specific examples of our efforts include:

  • Providing in-house bins to promote recycling of paper, plastic, and cans
  • Switching our standard office printer paper to Great White recycled paper for day-to-day printing
  •  Purchasing our office supplies that are made from recycled materials; 80% of our supplies are made from at least 30% post-consumer recycled materials
  • Participating in printer cartridge recycling programs

BHI is committed to energy efficient operations. Our efforts to improve the efficiency of our office include:

  • Using high-efficiency heating and air-conditioning equipment

  • Installing low-flow, high-pressure toilets at our headquarters
  • Supporting the Journal Center's maintenance of the office grounds with gray water
  • Encouraging energy conservation practices from our employees

Additional initiatives that are currently underway or being examined include:

  • Reducing energy consumption by delamping (removing bulbs from light fixtures)
  • Investigating options for xeriscaping the office grounds
  • Installing photo sensors on internal and external lighting
  • Replacing T-12 light fixtures with T-8 fixtures that use lower wattage bulbs
  • Service Masters By Brown, Green Seal Certified Janitorial Services

  • Service Master By Brown Carpet Maintenance Program; Green Seal Certified

  • Terminix Pest Control, Eco Green, All natural oils, no chemicals
